Fifth Movement

A place to call home,
A place where you would never be alone.
That is all he wanted,
That was all he could see and I,
I am the one who killed the dream.
Not until now have I realized the pain in having no home,
The pain in having nothing to call your own.
I, I lacked, I wanted, nothing and he, he just wanted someone to love him.
He needed a warm embrace that told him everything was alright,
He needed a place to keep his sorrow out of sight,
He needed a person who would acknowledge him and shout his name, Night.
He needed me to brighten his life.
All he wanted was to have someone by his side so that he knew he was truly alive.
That someone was me and I destroyed that dream.
Already there are some who banish him from mind and befoul his name with lies.
Yet those same lips speak words of love to me.
So I ask how can they love me and hate him.
Don’t all of us drink from the same cups?
Speak with the same words?
Don’t we lie down and rise up everyday just the same?
Does not a sword wound us both?
Do we not both live on hope?
We are all the same,
So how can I trust you to not treat me the same way?
If I laid here would you be in the streets inciting fear?
He was the only one who spoke his mind.
He was the only one to listen too.
I’m sorry Night that until now I couldn’t put my trust in you.
Please,
Please wake up and let me hear you say,
”I could never hate you.”
Here is the fifth segement in my Symphony for Night series. In this one, Princess Day is watching over Night's unconcious body and thinking about how she is responsible for him lying there. She is racked with guilt and is suspicous of everyone elses motives. She wonders why everyone hates Night but adores her. She realizes that Night and her aren't different at all and is angry at those who scorn him. As always constructive criticism is welcome. Before I forget, the music this piece is set to is A Place to Call Home. This song is from the FFIX Piano Collections. It fit the subject of the poem and embodied Night's dream of having a place of his own. It is one of my favorite tracks from the FFIX Piano Collections so check it out. It is available on iTunes.
